the story of stuff

quite a number of years ago i was married and living in NYC.

my husband and i were cramped into an apartment with his stuff, my stuff, our cats stuff and although it was organized it was full.

with stuff outpouring from all corners i became very interested and inspired by minimalism. i didnt want anything new to come into our home. i didnt buy anything, accept any gifts or even generous family hand me downs. if anything came into our home it had to be edible or necessary. we were constantly trying to figure out how to get rid of things.

then I heard about a video titled The Story of Stuff. a potent dose of consumer reality, that highlighting things like Planned Obsolescence and Perceived Obsolescence. a 21 minute video that changed my life.

it gave me a better understanding of where our stuff comes from, where it goes and why we're pushed to constantly buy more.

here is the story of stuff and all its wonderful eye opening passionate data.
